The apostles had lived with Jesus. Then Jesus asks: “Who do people say I am?” They respond: “John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again, one of the prophets.” Pursuing his question, Jesus asks them: “But you, who do you say I am?” “You are the Christ”, responded Peter. “My Lord and my God!” exclaimed St. Thomas. “Lord Jesus, You are everything for me” said St. Ambrose.
When Jesus becomes our everything, then everything becomes nothing! Christianity is Christ: nothing more and nothing less. To be a Christian is to open my heart to Jesus; to let Jesus enter my life; to let the values of His gospel pervade and permeate every fibre of my being; to follow Him on His terms and conditions, all the way right up to Calvary.
