4th Sunday of Advent – PWIV Year C

We are almost on the threshold of Christmas. It is time to celebrate. God continues to intervene in our lives too. Nothing merely happens. Everything is planned, programmed and permitted by God. There are no mere incidents but only “God-incidents”. Both Mary and Elizabeth celebrated the birth of their sons who would be put to death.

John the Baptist was beheaded at Herod’s birthday party; Jesus was arrested, scourged, tortured and crucified at Calvary as a public criminal. Through the joyful and sorrowful mysteries in our lives, God is at work. Success or failure, health or sickness, strength or weakness, plenty or poverty, life or death all form part of the pattern that God wants to trace on the fabric of our lives.
