Jesus’ presence along with his mother and the disciples bring joy at the wedding feast at Cana. When the wine, the symbol of joy, runs out from our life, there is Mary who comes to our assistance. When she pleads, Jesus intervenes. Mary says to us as she did to the attenders at the wedding feast. “Do what he tells you.” What we need is the willingness to turn to Jesus and the obedience to do what he tells us. It is not that Jesus brings change by himself alone. It is in collaboration with others he does it. Paul reminds us of the different gifts that the Spirit gives for the building up of the Church. We need to discern the gifts given to us and make use of them for the wellbeing of the Church. Jesus not only gives wine in abundance but what he provides is of better quality. As Mary brought to the attention of Jesus the situation of the family, we should intercede for others through our prayers.
