After the successful ministry in Capernaum and other parts of Galilee, Jesus is now in his own home town, Nazareth. Jesus was unable to do much healing in Nazareth because they refused to believe in him. They lacked faith. The response of the people of Nazareth was only a foretaste of the total rejection of Jesus by Pharisees and Scribes leading finally to crucifixion. It is a good lesson for his disciples that they need to shed all triumphalism experienced in Capernaum and Galilee and be prepared for rejections and persecutions in their ministry too. Today too, followers of Jesus are targets of discrimination and persecution in many countries even when they are good citizens and do only good. Christians give love, no matter what they receive in return.
