Moses announces the Law of the Lord and invites people to fulfill it with all their heart and soul. Jesus reveals Love as the spirit and heart of the Law through the parable of the Good Samaritan. In Paul’s reflection on the centrality of Christ in the whole of creation, we find the meeting ground of Law and Love. The Law of God is not opposed to human nature. On the contrary, God’s law is so close to the human heart that it is found in our hearts and on our lips.
We fulfill the Law by our love of God and neighbour, with a love that transcends human boundaries and does not count the cost. Spend a few minutes examining the quality of your loving. Go beyond your comfort zone and do an act of love to someone who does not really “deserve it” by worldly standards.
